Metro

A legendary Hungarian beat group, Metro was founded in early-60s. Original line-up of Zoran Sztevanovity (vocals, guitar), Dusan Sztevanovity (guitar), Ottos Schock (keyboards), Gabor Redey (bass, vocals) and Andras Veselinov (drums) produced numerous beat/r’n’b records, now available on 2000 anthology CD. However, it was the line-up of Z. Sztevanovity, D. Sztevanovity, Schock, Karoly Frenreisz (bass, vocals, sax) and Gyozo Brunner (drums) that caused natural sensation with band’s debut LP in 1969. Second LP was recorded live and featured new keyboard player Janos Fogarasi. However, loss of Schock, band’s principal composer, proved vital: new songs gained raw edge but lost diversity and charm, obvious on their debut album.

Unfortunately, Metro days were numbered with Frenraisz’s decision to leave for Locomotiv GT (->) in 1971. Others carried on until 1974, but no albums were released.
Band members got together again in 1992 to do a huge reunion concert, later released as a live CD.
